LoNdoN aFteR MidNiGht

i've been making quite a bit of london after midnight graphics lately, as i'm very obsessed with them at the moment. i have a lot of credit due toward them for being my introduction into the goth subculture. *+.

the first song by london after midnight that i ever heard was spider and the fly, and it took me into another world. which was a good thing, considering i'd been in an uninteresting store a few hours from where i lived, and had finally gotten around to listening to the random songs i'd downloaded for my mp3 player, i'd been completely distracted from what i was actually doing because i swore i was hearing one of the greatest things i've ever heard.

then, i learned about the band, which meant learning who sean brennan was.

it is nearly improbable that i would be attracted to a man, so that is exactly what i liked about sean brennan. he reminded me too much of a woman for me to feel the typical repulsion. what a lovely, feminine person he is.

a lot of london after midnight's music has an erotic atmosphere about it... which made them considerably easy to fall in love with as a 15 year old girl who was obsessing over anne rice at the time.

i decided to give a listen to the rest of selected scenes from the end of the world, then i went and listened to psycho magnet. i loved how overwhelmingly atmospheric the music was, the fact that it could take me to another place.

london after midnight was different from what i thought of on the topic of goth music, since i typically thought of the cure, which at the time, wasn't my thing. (in time, i have recovered.) but london after midnight had this atmosphere that reminded me of the music in castlevania IV, a game which was beloved to me my entire childhood, along with the soundtrack of course. i think playing something like that and enjoying its music likely set me up to get into music with similar elements later (i.e goth, and to some degree, gothic metal.)

i give thank you to this band and sean brennan for roping me into the subculture. i understand that someone had to, but this band made it all too easy.

when i had red and black hair, i was compared to sean on more than one occasion and that is certainly one of my favorite compliments i've ever received. it meant a lot, considering it hadn't even been my intention, though i'm sure my inspiration must have been some other red haired '90s goth. there seemed to be a lot of those.

sacrifice is one of the most sexy songs i've heard.
